Anti-Dazzle — What It Does and Why It Matters
BMW’s anti-dazzle (NGHB — Nachtsicht Gegenverkehr Hochbeam Begrenzung) uses the forward-facing camera to detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and the taillights of slower vehicles ahead. When traffic is detected, the system automatically reduces the high-beam output to a dipped pattern — avoiding dazzle — then restores full high beams when the road ahead is clear again.
The driver keeps the stalk in the high-beam position at all times. The car manages the switching automatically. This is the same system BMW sells as standard equipment on higher-spec trims in Europe and some Asian markets — many export-market cars have the hardware but not the software activation.
Why Anti-Dazzle Isn’t Enabled by Default
BMW ships cars with different feature sets by market. In some regions the feature requires government approval for the specific vehicle type. In others it was simply left off to differentiate trim levels. The ENET coding activates the existing hardware — no physical modification, nothing visible from outside the car.
Hardware Requirement — Option 5AS or 5AZ
Anti-dazzle requires adaptive LED headlights (SA option 5AS) or laser headlights (SA option 5AZ). These are identifiable by the moving/adaptive beam when turning, or by checking your build data. We check this from your VIN before you purchase — no guessing required.
Anti-Dazzle + Bundle by Market
USA — All 50 States
Our USA anti-dazzle coding complies with FMVSS 108 federal lighting regulations. We use the FMVSS-compliant coding parameters — not the European version which operates differently. US customers in California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois, and all 50 states are covered. This is one of our most popular services for US BMW owners who highway drive regularly.
UAE — Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah
Long desert highway drives between Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Al Ain make anti-dazzle extremely useful. Most Gulf-spec G-Series BMWs have the 5AS adaptive LED headlight option, making them prime candidates. Sessions available in Gulf Standard Time.
Saudi Arabia — Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam
Saudi highways are long and dark — anti-dazzle provides the same benefit as in the UAE. GCC-spec BMWs are fully compatible where the 5AS/5AZ option is present. Most G-Series sold in KSA with LED headlights qualify.
UK — All Right-Hand Drive Markets
UK-specific coding parameters used. Right-hand drive has no impact on anti-dazzle function. F-Series and G-Series UK-spec models are compatible where the adaptive LED option was ticked.
Australia and New Zealand
Australian-delivered BMWs are often equipped with the 5AS LED option as standard on higher trims. AEST/AEDT sessions available. Anti-dazzle coding complies with Australian Design Rules (ADR) for the light-switching behaviour.
