Production ended in 2023 with the arrival of the G60 5 Series, making the G30 the most recent “pure” iDrive 7 MGU generation of the model. G60 units use the more advanced iDrive 8 / Curved Display system and require different coding procedures.

The G30’s infotainment system is built on the iDrive 7.0 MGU (Media and Graphics Unit) platform — a complete departure from the F10’s iDrive 6 NBT (Next Big Thing) system. The difference matters enormously for coding:

1. Video In Motion (VIM)

BMW’s factory navigation and media system blocks video playback — YouTube, streaming apps, and even navigation video feeds — while the car is in motion. VIM coding removes this restriction, allowing front-seat passengers to watch video content on the iDrive screen while the car is moving. This is one of the most requested features across all G-Series BMWs. Note: this is intended for passenger use and should not be operated by the driver while moving.

2. Auto Start-Stop Memory (Disable)

The G30’s automatic engine start-stop system defaults to ON every time you start the car, regardless of how you left it. Most drivers prefer to disable start-stop and are forced to press the “A Off” button every single journey. With start-stop memory coding, the system remembers your last preference across ignition cycles — if you turned it off, it stays off on the next start. A small change with a significant daily quality-of-life impact.

3. Reverse Mirror Dip (Passenger Side)

When you engage reverse gear, the passenger-side (curb-side) door mirror automatically tilts downward to show the kerb, improving visibility for tight parking manoeuvres. This feature exists in the G30 hardware from the factory but is disabled in software for most markets. Once coded, the mirror dips smoothly and returns to normal position when you shift out of reverse.

4. M Startup Animation

The G30 M550i and other M Performance models show a branded M startup animation on the instrument cluster when the engine starts. On standard 530i and 540i variants this animation is suppressed. 5. Sport Plus and Comfort Plus Display Modes

The feature activates via a brief delay after engine shutdown.

7. Legal Disclaimer Screen Removal

Every time the G30 iDrive boots up, it displays a “Please note traffic regulations” safety disclaimer screen that requires a tap to dismiss before you can access navigation or media. On a car you drive every day, dismissing this screen becomes a tedious ritual. ENET coding removes this screen entirely, taking you straight to the iDrive home screen on startup.

8. Boot Lid (Trunk) Key Disable

The BMW comfort access system by default allows the boot lid to open by waving your foot under the rear bumper when the key is in your pocket. 9. Fold Mirrors on Lock

Does My G30 Have iDrive 7? How to Check

All G30 5 Series built from 2017 onward were fitted with iDrive 7 from the factory. You can confirm by looking at the top of your infotainment menu screen — iDrive 7 has a distinct tile-based home screen with larger icons and a full-width status bar at the top. If your screen shows a narrow, classic-style menu, you may have an earlier aftermarket head unit — contact us before booking.
