These features are factory-present in your G20’s software and disabled by BMW as shipped. They are unlocked by modifying parameters in the MGU and connected modules via E-Sys — the same tool BMW engineers use.

1. Anti-Dazzle / Glare-Free High Beam (NGHB)

The most-requested G20 coding feature and the one most owners struggle with. Anti-dazzle (formally “Non-Glare High Beam”) works like this: on a dark road, your high beams engage automatically. When an oncoming car is detected by the front camera, the light distribution adjusts to cut the glare — the car in front stays dark, the road around it stays lit.

The G20 has this feature in hardware (if your headlights are LED or laser). The software is present. What’s missing is the coding activation across the camera module AND the headlight module simultaneously.

Why BimmerCode can’t do it: Anti-dazzle on the MGU platform requires SCR (Security Cryptographic) handshaking between modules. BimmerCode communicates via Bluetooth and has a restricted parameter set — it cannot reach the required headlight ECU on the G20 without dropping out. E-Sys via ENET cable is the only reliable method.

2. Apple CarPlay Fullscreen — Permanent Lifetime Activation

The G20’s standard ConnectedDrive CarPlay subscription runs $80–100/year and displays maps in split-screen. Coding removes the subscription requirement permanently and enables fullscreen mode — your maps, apps, and audio controls fill the entire 10.25″ screen.

This is one of the most popular G20 coding requests. Once coded, it survives software updates and applies to every subsequent iPhone connection.

3. Auto Start-Stop — Permanent Disable

The G20’s start-stop system resets to ON at every engine start. The button on the centre console disables it for that drive only. Coding removes this reset — start-stop stays off permanently from the next key cycle, no button needed.

This is the single most-searched BMW coding request and one of the simplest to execute. Works across all G20 engine variants including 318i, 320i, 330i, 330e, M340i.

4. Sport Display — Oil Temperature, G-Meter, Lap Timer

Hidden behind a software flag, the G20’s instrument cluster and iDrive centre display support a full sport display set: oil temperature, coolant temperature, G-force meter, traction control readout, and a lap timer. These are active in M3 and M340i variants from factory — coding enables them on all other G20 trims.

5. Auto-Fold Mirrors on Lock/Unlock

Folds and deploys door mirrors automatically when you lock or unlock. The G20 has the motors — the fold behaviour is a parameter switch. Properly timed (mirrors fold after the car locks, deploy as you approach), no 2-second delay that inferior coding sometimes introduces.

6. Video in Motion (VIM)

Removes the speed-lock on iDrive screen content. Factory G20 restricts video sources to stationary use only. Post-coding, screen content is available while moving — relevant for passenger video, CarPlay mirroring, and navigation video input.

7. Cornering Lights

Activates the fog lights to illuminate the direction of your low-speed turn. Standard in European-market G20, often coded-out in US, Middle East, and Australian builds. Subtle but useful in underground car parks and unlit side streets. Requires factory fog lights.

8. Remote Window Close

Hold the lock button on your key fob: all four windows and the sunroof close. Factory feature disabled in most regions. Single parameter change in the FEM (Front Electronics Module).

9. Silent Lock (No Horn Chirp)

Disables the horn beep on lock and unlock. Lock confirmation switches to mirror fold + indicator flash only. Most G20 owners in residential areas find this indispensable.

Does coding survive software updates on G20?

BMW OTA updates can reset some parameters. We recommend not accepting OTA updates immediately after coding. If an update resets a feature, we recode it at no additional charge within 30 days of your original session.

Is anti-dazzle available on all G20 models?
