Why Anti-Dazzle Is Disabled on GCC BMWs
BMW calibrates headlight settings per market during factory programming. GCC-spec BMWs follow a different lighting certification than EU-spec (based on ECE Regulation 48 with GCC modifications), and BMW often defaults these markets to a more conservative headlight control profile. The hardware — adaptive LED projectors with a high-beam camera — is identical to European models. Only the software switch is off.
Anti-Dazzle on Saudi Highways: Why It Matters
Saudi Arabia has some of the longest highways in the GCC — the Riyadh–Jeddah expressway (980km), the Gulf Coast Highway, and NEOM-area routes all involve extended nighttime high-speed driving. Anti-Dazzle means:
- High beams stay on at 120–140 km/h unless oncoming cars are detected
- Automatic switch to low beam when approaching headlights detected (by forward camera, not infrared)
- Returns to high beam 1–2 seconds after vehicle passes
- Dramatically improves night visibility vs. manually switching or leaving on low beam
