What is the difference between iDrive 5 and iDrive 6?

iDrive 6 has a redesigned tile-based menu layout, improved graphics, faster response times, and native support for Apple CarPlay. iDrive 5 has the older list-based menu. This service upgrades iDrive 5 to iDrive 6 as part of the firmware flash.

Do I need a WiFi antenna for CarPlay?

For wired CarPlay (USB cable), no WiFi antenna is needed. For wireless CarPlay, your car needs a WiFi antenna installed. Some BMWs have one from the factory, others do not. Send us your VIN and we will check if yours has one or if you need to add one.

Will this firmware upgrade affect my existing engine tune?

No. The iDrive firmware flash only affects the head unit (NBT Evo or EntryNav2). It does not touch the DME, TCU, or any engine-related modules. Your existing tune remains completely unaffected.

Is the CarPlay activation permanent or subscription-based?

Permanent. The CarPlay activation is a lifetime activation with no subscription fees and no expiry date. Once activated, it stays active through software updates and dealer visits.

What display sizes does this work with?

All NBT Evo and EntryNav2 display sizes: 6.5 inch, 8.8 inch, and 10.25 inch. The fullscreen CarPlay feature works on all sizes.
