What is BMW Anti-Dazzle High Beam?
BMW Anti-Dazzle uses a windshield-mounted camera to detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and the tail lights of vehicles ahead. When detected, the system selectively dims segments of the high beam array to prevent blinding other drivers — while keeping the road ahead maximally illuminated. The driver never manually toggles high beam; the system manages it entirely.
Is Anti-Dazzle Already in Your Car?
If your BMW has adaptive LED, Matrix LED, or Laser headlights, the hardware for Anti-Dazzle is almost certainly installed. Whether it's active depends on how your car was coded at the factory. Cars sold in certain markets (especially the USA and some Asia-Pacific regions) often have this feature disabled by default even with premium headlight packages.
How to Check if Your BMW Supports Anti-Dazzle
- Go to iDrive Settings → Driving → Lights → High Beam Assistant. If the option exists but is grayed out, the feature is present but disabled.
- Check your BMW's build sheet (FA/vehicle order) for option code 5AC (High Beam Assistant) or 552 (Adaptive LED headlights)
