Quick Answer
The BMW Hands-Free Driving Module activates the Traffic Jam Assistant (TJA) hands-off feature on compatible G-series BMWs equipped with Active Cruise Control. The module connects via the vehicle's CAN bus using plug-and-play connectors. No coding or laptop required. Compatible with G20, G30, G05 and other G-chassis models with ACC.
BMW Hands-Free Driving Module (HOD/TJA Emulator) enables hands-free driving during Traffic Jam Assist and ACC PRO by emulating steering wheel touch detection. No need to replace your steering wheel. Plug-and-play module with coding activation included. Compatible with BMW F-Series and G-Series equipped with 5AU/5AT driving assistance. $299 USD at M-TRI UPGRADE.
What This Module Does
BMW vehicles with ACC PRO / Driving Assistant Professional (5AU/5AT) require you to keep your hands on the steering wheel at all times. The capacitive sensors in the steering wheel detect hand contact — if you let go, the system warns you with yellow then red lights and eventually disengages lane keeping and applies the brakes.
The HOD (Hands-Off Detection) emulator module simulates constant steering wheel contact. This allows you to use Traffic Jam Assist (TJA) truly hands-free in traffic at speeds under 60 km/h, and reduces the frequency of "hold steering wheel" warnings during highway ACC PRO use.
Key Features
- Hands-free Traffic Jam Assist (TJA) — no more touching the steering wheel every 15 seconds in traffic
- Reduced ACC PRO warnings — fewer "please hold steering wheel" prompts during highway driving
- No steering wheel replacement needed — works with your existing steering wheel
- Plug-and-play hardware — connects to the vehicle's CAN bus
- Coding activation included — remote coding session to configure the module
- Fully reversible — unplug the module to return to factory behavior
